Kopffarben hat sich auf die Visualisierung klassischer Musik spezialisiert: Beethovens Sinfonien, Mendelssohns Opern, Mozarts Requiem, Händels Oratorien, Vivaldi und Philip Glass. Das Format eignet sich für Konzerthäuser, Kirchen, Festspielhäuser und Open-Air-Bühnen.
Projection Mapping & Architekturprojektionen
Großformatige Projektionen auf Gebäudefassaden, Denkmäler und Architektur. Realisierte Projekte umfassen den Erfurter Dom (Tag der Deutschen Einheit), den Berliner Dom (Festival of Lights) und internationale Festivals.
Lichtkunstinstallationen
Ortsspezifische Installationen für Kirchen, Klöster, Museen und den öffentlichen Raum. Die Installationen verbinden projizierte Malerei mit Klanglandschaften zu einem immersiven Raumerlebnis, wie etwa im Augustinerkloster Erfurt oder beim Lichtkunstfestival Fürther Glanzlichter.

Häufige Fragen
Wie funktioniert die Lichtkunst von Kopffarben?
Julia Schäfer malt die Bildmotive entweder live auf der Bühne an einem Grafik-Tablet – die entstehenden Motive werden zeitgleich großflächig projiziert und von Johannes Schmidt in Echtzeit zur Musik animiert – oder vorab im Atelier, sodass die fertigen Projektionen als Loop abgespielt werden können. So eignet sich unsere Lichtkunst sowohl für einmalige Live-Aufführungen als auch für länger laufende Installationen.
Kann man Kopffarben für ein Konzert oder Festival buchen?
Ja. Wir entwickeln für jedes Projekt ein individuelles visuelles Konzept – abgestimmt auf Programm, Raum und Ensemble. Kontakt für Anfragen und Booking: mail@kopffarben.de
Welche Musik wird visualisiert?
Unser Schwerpunkt liegt auf klassischer Musik – Sinfonien, Opern, Oratorien und Kammermusik. Wir arbeiten aber auch mit Jazz, experimenteller Elektronik und zeitgenössischer Musik. Auf Wunsch wählen wir auch eine passende Musikaufnahme aus, wenn keine Live-Musiker:innen zur Verfügung stehen.
Bringt ihr die Technik mit?
Wir bringen unsere eigene Hard- und Software mit, die speziell für die Lichtmalerei entwickelt wurde. Wenn am Veranstaltungsort bereits Projektoren oder LED-Wände vorhanden sind, nutzen wir diese. Wir können bei Bedarf aber auch eigene Projektoren stellen.
Welche Räume eignen sich?
Konzerthäuser, Kirchen, Museen, Industriehallen, Open-Air-Bühnen, Gebäudefassaden – unsere Technik lässt sich flexibel an die räumlichen Gegebenheiten anpassen. Voraussetzung ist eine helle Projektionsfläche (Wand oder Leinwand) und die Möglichkeit, den Raum abzudunkeln bzw. ein Auftritt ab einer Stunde nach Sonnenuntergang.
Für Lichtinstallationen im Loop-Betrieb ist kein Personal vor Ort nötig – die Projektion läuft nach der Einrichtung selbstständig.
Arbeitet ihr auch international?
Ja, wir sind regelmäßig im europäischen Ausland tätig – unter anderem in Frankreich, Litauen und Italien. Die Kommunikation ist auf Deutsch und Englisch möglich.
Was kostet ein Projekt?

Wie viel Vorlauf braucht ihr?
Für die künstlerische Konzeption planen wir idealerweise vier bis sechs Wochen Vorlauf ein. Bei besonders aufwändigen Neuproduktionen gerne mehr.
Technische Anforderungen
Unsere Technik besteht aus eigens für die Lichtmalerei entwickelter Hard- und Software und kann flexibel an die räumlichen Gegebenheiten angepasst werden.
Unser Aufbau:
- Staffelei mit Monitor (Stellfläche ca. 2 m²), vorzugsweise auf der Bühne oder nahe der Projektion
- PC (26 × 12 × 24 cm), kann bis zu 8 Meter von der Staffelei entfernt stehen
- Display-Kabel, Output: HDMI oder DVI
Projektionsfläche: Helle geschlossene Wand oder Leinwand. Je größer die Fläche, desto wirkungsvoller die Show. Der Raum muss abgedunkelt werden können, bzw. Auftritt ab einer Stunde nach Sonnenuntergang.
Projektoren: Sind bereits Projektoren oder LED-Wände vorhanden, nutzen wir diese. Bei Bedarf können wir eigene Projektoren stellen (bis 12.000 Ansilumen).
Aufbau & Abbau: Wenn Leinwand, Projektoren und Tonanlage bereits stehen: ca. 1–2 Stunden. Bei Eigeninstallation je nach Größe mindestens 4 Stunden bzw. Aufbaubeginn am Vortag. Abbau: ca. 1 Stunde.
Reisekosten: Anfahrt ab Berlin mit PKW (0,30 €/km). Übernachtung: 2 Einzelzimmer (ohne Musiker:innen)

Kopffarben creates live-painted and animated light art projections for concerts, cultural events and architectural stagings. Every project is individually conceived – from the artistic idea to the technical realisation, all from a single source.
Audiovisual Concerts & Stage Design
Live-painted projections as stage design for orchestras, chamber music ensembles and soloists. Kopffarben specialises in the visualisation of classical music: Beethoven’s symphonies, Mendelssohn’s operas, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s oratorios, Vivaldi and Philip Glass. The format is suited to concert halls, churches, festival venues and open-air stages.
Projection Mapping & Architectural Projections
Large-scale projections onto building façades, monuments and architecture. Completed projects include Erfurt Cathedral (German Unity Day), Berlin Cathedral (Festival of Lights) and international festivals.
Light Art Installations
Site-specific installations for churches, monasteries, museums and public spaces. The installations combine projected painting with soundscapes to create an immersive spatial experience, such as at the Augustinerkloster Erfurt or the Fürther Glanzlichter light art festival.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Kopffarben’s light art work?
Julia Schäfer paints the visual motifs either live on stage using a graphics tablet – the emerging motifs are simultaneously projected on a large scale and animated in real time to the music by Johannes Schmidt – or beforehand in the studio, so that the finished projections can be played as a loop. This makes our light art suitable both for one-off live performances and for longer-running installations.
Can we book Kopffarben for a concert or festival?

What kind of music do you visualise?
Our focus is on classical music – symphonies, operas, oratorios and chamber music. However, we also work with jazz, experimental electronics and contemporary music. If no live musicians are available, we can also select a suitable music recording.
Do you bring your own equipment?
We bring our own hardware and software, specifically developed for light painting. If projectors or LED walls are already available at the venue, we will use them. We can also provide our own projectors if needed.
What kind of venues are suitable?
Concert halls, churches, museums, industrial spaces, open-air stages, building façades – our technology can be flexibly adapted to the spatial conditions. Requirements are a light-coloured projection surface (wall or screen) and the ability to darken the space, or a performance starting at least one hour after sunset.
For light installations running on a loop, no personnel are needed on site – the projection runs autonomously after set-up.
How much does a project cost?

How much lead time do you need?
We ideally plan four to six weeks of lead time for the artistic conception. For particularly complex new productions, more time is welcome.
Do you work internationally?
Yes, we regularly perform across Europe – including France, Lithuania and Italy. Communication is possible in German and English.
Technical Requirements
Our technology consists of hardware and software specifically developed for light painting and can be flexibly adapted to the spatial conditions.
Our set-up:
- Easel with monitor (floor space approx. 2 m²), preferably on stage or close to the projection
- PC (26 × 12 × 24 cm), can be placed up to 8 metres from the easel
- Display cable, output: HDMI or DVI
Projection surface: Light-coloured closed wall or screen. The larger the surface, the more effective the show. The space must be able to be darkened, or the performance must take place at least one hour after sunset.
Projectors: If projectors or LED walls are already available, we will use them. We can provide our own projectors if needed (up to 12,000 ANSI lumens).
Set-up & dismantling: If screen, projectors and sound system are already in place: approx. 1–2 hours. If we install these as well, at least 4 hours depending on the size, or set-up beginning the day before. Dismantling: approx. 1 hour.
Travel costs: Travel from Berlin by car (€0.30/km). Accommodation: 2 single rooms (excluding musicians).
